Babel is all about intertwining with captivating intrigue four stories in Morocco, Mexico, Tunisia and Japan. The movie begins with the story of Richard and Susan Jones (Brad Pitt – delicious actor… and Cate Blanchett), a normal yet stressed American couple, looking for some quite time in Morocco, leaving their two children in San Diego, trying to reconnect, to fall in love again, if possible.
Susan gets shot by some bullet coming from a goat farmer son who was testing out his new rifle. It was almost a tragedy but she didn’t die. So, this unusual trip gets extended…
The Mexican housekeeper responsible for watching the two kids has a son in Mexico who’s getting married immediately. She can’t find anyone else so she takes the children with her, across the border to get to the wedding. All party, dancing, fun… but, trying to go back is not that easy - the film is getting exciting by the minute - police trouble, car chasing…
In Japan, the young Chieko struggles with some sad memories - the death of her mother and she has problems talking with anyone about this. So, she tries to prematurely activate her sexuality… which gives the move an interesting, exciting touch.
Original scenery, viewing different cultures, sprawling distances, and in the end… these four stories are sharing the same destiny – hurting, getting isolated. These few short days are filled with sensations… feeling lost in the desert, all alone against the world, lost to their one soul, wanting to escape, reaching the edges of fear and confusion, trying to get back the passion…
